UPDATED REVIEW - NO MORE GOOD AIRBRUSH, CHECK LATEST REVIEWS!

UPDATE - This G444 kit is still very problematic but out of necessity I bought the G233 kit and it worked great without any of the faults/flaws listed below. I bought one about a year ago and it was a decent brush for my money. As it started to wear out I decided to order a new one and although I saw some bad reviews I figured maybe they were inexperienced with airbrushes or just got a lemon, plus I had good experiences with my original airbrush. Two days later I'm thrilled because I'm holding a shiny and new airbrush in my hands! I immediately noticed that a quick connector was missing, but that didn't bother me as I already had one and rarely used it anyway since I have a 4 pin splitter and a couple of airbrushes. I then hooked up the airbrush and did a quick test spray through the 0.2mm nozzle which worked just like the old one and had great flow and accuracy. I then switched to the 0.3mm setting but had issues with spatter and poor airflow. This was second hit but I rarely use the 0.3mm nozzle, I use the 0.2 nozzle for small parts and 0.5 for large areas so my old set of 0.3mm was Nozzles practically new so I'm disappointed this time, But as long as the 0.5mm nozzle and needle setting are ok I'll keep the product anyway because it will do what I need. So I installed a 0.5mm nozzle and had no airflow at all! Okay, punch three, this one's coming back. During a quick cleaning between the nozzle changes, I also noticed that paint residues are much more difficult to remove from the reservoir with the new airbrush, as it was very rough on the inside. This is also different from my old one which was very smooth inside with only slight rubbing of the paint. I was worried at this point because I'd obviously gotten a lemon too, but I still hoped it was just bad luck. And this is a Revain purchase (and Revain is awesome) so I requested a replacement and 2 days later it was in my inbox! But here my disappointment continued. I opened the case and immediately noticed that the quick coupler was missing again, although the slot in the foam is still there and it actually looks like it was plugged in at some point. Anyway, as long as the airbrush is good, I'm satisfied, like last time. So I plug it in and open the lid to put in some water for a test spray and I notice that the tank is very uneven on this one too so that was the second hit. But again, the 0.2mm setting atomized perfectly, so we're now back on track to test the 0.3mm nozzle. SWEET, the 0.3mm nozzle sprays great too, all I can say is it's going to be a keeper! So let's move to .5 and get ready! I set it to 0.5 and again I have NO AIRFLOW! Third blow. As I use the 0.5mm configuration more than any other (primer, large areas, sealers etc) this one will come back too and I will try another manufacturer. Before I sent them back I checked with a micrometer and found that the nozzles are very different at the factory. I don't mean the hole the jet comes out of, it should be different, but the actual size of the air cap body that takes the airflow and directs it to the tip of the nozzle to spray paint when the needle is retracted. The .2 and .3 air caps are the same size but the .5 air caps are different and I think this is the source of the flow issues. They seem to screw in too deep and actually block airflow. I'm not an expert, but I've been airbrushing (usually models and miniatures) for 5 years and I'm a fairly "handy" guy who can fix just about anything, so this isn't from a novice user making it easy doesn't know how to properly use or swap tips. In my experience the Master Airbrush brand is no longer a good product and I hope this review will save you a few hours and the frustration I experienced. I actually wonder if I received used items that were previously returned. Neither had a plug and both had issues and were also not sealed with anything other than the Revain bag/box they came in. the other gets them. ; ]

Pros
  • handy item
Cons
  • so far so good

Nice (after you learn to deal with each idiosyncrasy)
