I bought this scale in 2008, partly because I started measuring volume. Yes, I used this feature the first day I got the scale and haven't used it since. The scale comes with a piece of paper with the codes you enter for the ingredients to be weighed so that the weight is converted to the appropriate volume. Five years later I don't even know where that note is. I use the scale primarily for baking and I have my own volume to weight cheat sheet that I use. There are many online calculators that convert volume to weight, so you might be better off using those. While I found this scale to be fairly accurate for the time I used it, I found the container to be too small for baking. Maximum 3 kg, which is not so much for kneading dough for several loaves of bread. After 5 years, the tare/on/off button stopped working normally. While the scale is turned on with this button, it will no longer tare and cannot be turned off without removing the battery or waiting for the auto power off. I've submitted a warranty claim to Escali so we can see if they honor the lifetime warranty. However, I will be upgrading to a My Weight KD-7000 or KD-8000 with a 7/8kg capacity and keeping this as a backup. UPDATE: I contacted Escali about the warranty and they responded quickly. Instructions on how to ship the scale to them. About a week later I received the replacement scale. I have upgraded it to 4 stars (from 3 before) due to the great experience with their customer service and warranty process.
