I have been breastfeeding since day one in the hospital. After a month my nipples started to suffer from 8-12 feedings a day for at least 30 minutes per session. I used lanolin creams to heal my nipples as they were on the verge of bleeding. I used disposable nursing pads, changed them, and reapplied lanolin after each breastfeed. It is tedious but must be done. But since my nipples are so sore I only take 2-3 days off breastfeeding to let it heal and have decided to use these silver shields instead of these disposable pads. It was difficult for me to keep these pads on my chest. I also adjusted the 25mm breast pump flange as well as the Medela silicone nipple shields (a gift to me from the hospital) and found the LARGE silver cap size to be a bit small. But that doesn't mean it won't fit anyone using a 25mm flange or shield. It's just based on my own breast anatomy. I feel like it helps my nipples heal faster and that's why I like it a lot. It also helps protect my nipples from the rubbing I experience when using disposable pads. Even though they are soft, my nipples are so sensitive that I can feel everything. These shields help protect and soothe my nipples and also keep the lanolin from wearing down. Expensive, yes, but worth it. Recommend!
