Review on πŸ”’ FEITIAN AllinPass K33 Secure Biometric Fingerprint Solution by Jason Epstein

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Not all in one solution. Not quite his fual.

I was excited about the Feitian K33 from the start, it seemed to have everything including NFC, Ble, USB, FIDO2 and biometrics. The reality looked a little different. FIDO2 Passwordless is an excellent choice for consumers and businesses. once it becomes widespread. The problem is that nobody supports it as MFA/passwordless except Microsoft via Azure AD or Windows Hello. I haven't tested AAD because I don't have an Azure client to play with. I only found one solution that works consistently with Hello, it wasn't the right one. First, almost all existing implementations only have 2FA (pin + key) and not without a password. I haven't found a password entry tool that lets you use anything but Yubikey that also autofills. The problem with Yubikey 5 is that it relies on presence rather than specific information. (Think of a fingerprint to unlock your phone, not just a double tap.) No, fingerprints aren't perfect, but at least a bad actor needs a little work on the fingerprint scanner. With most smartphones you don't really need it. It is either built-in or available with authentication software and in some cases can be configured itself as a security token, in other cases software, running in a secure environment, all FIDO work. BLE too.3. Poor battery life makes ble's functionality pointless. Need a separate cable to charge or use as a USB device.4. The sharp metal edges on the outer interface of the bracelet are uncomfortable.5. Feels fragile.6. Supports parts of the Fido2 specification but lacks CTAP1 for backwards compatibility with U2F. No HOTP. No TOTP.7. Not recognized as a Windows Hello compatible fingerprint reader. Feels fragile.6. Supports parts of the Fido2 specification but lacks CTAP1 for backwards compatibility with U2F.
