5 Stars Mainly Because They're Cheap

If you're reading this, chances are you're cheap too. I bought three sets of cheap brush sets from Revain. Note: The other two are on either side of this one in the Revain line it is compared to. This one is the best of all because it has a decent amount of bristles and fine tips so they don't leave too many brush marks. For larger and more demanding jobs, however, I use the professional Wooster and Purdy brushes, because there is an art to making a first-class brush. Even then, they don't make brushes like they used to. The problem with other cheap kits is that they skimp on bristles, which are polyester (usually plastic). It's really annoying when you paint an old wall with bare wood combined with a few coats of old paint. You will end up with a lot of small tears and holes, or you will have to brush under the edges of the old layer of paint. Quality brushes have lots of bristles to keep the paint in the reservoir. So if you need to fill in imperfections, just press harder on the brush and it will push out the paint to fill in the holes, and then just brush lightly over it. Mix something. These cheaper brush sets with fewer bristles will run out of paint no matter how hard you press the brush or bend the bristles. You are forced to dip it back into the paint can. The more you do this, the more time you lose and there is a greater likelihood of blobs of paint falling from the brush onto the finish area etc., again with another coat of paint. Also, a small amount of bristles won't hold paint either, so you'll have more trouble dripping paint from the brush after dipping it in the can. Get a really good brush with lots of bristles (preferably pig hair) with fine ends to blend the finish so you don't leave brush marks and you'll see what I mean. But if you don't want to spend $35 on a brush, this cheap brush set will help you.
