They are big and weak. But I use them to hold 12 inch buffs in groups of three. They're perfect for that. I think they would hide two 2 x 4s together if they didn't secure them. My problem with them is that they tend to slip - I'd say they "grab" rather than "grab" if you get my meaning. They grip onto cloth buffing pads, but when multiple boards are pushed together, the wood can slip out. If you are looking for powerful clamps, this is not it. If you need to keep things together without a lot of pressure, then they're good.
