Send back. No better than a hand mixer.

I bought this unit for $49 on the Epic Daily Deal or whatever it is called. Here's my unbiased review (and why I sent it back): The device is made out of very light plastic, which I don't think is a bad thing. I have a small kitchen and the weight makes it easy to lift and store on a shelf where it doesn't get in the way. It seems that the manufacturer is really interested in suction cups, so I say yes, they have them. They work. They don't matter much. They probably don't have to. The instructions state not to run this device for more than 3 minutes at a time. I think it's a bit concerning - it seems like a lot of things are taking longer to mix properly. If the motor burns out that quickly, I think that's a problem. I cook from scratch every day and I know how to bake. With this device I did three things: - I made cake mix out of the box. The mixer was easy to set up and run with the whisks, but I felt that the mixture was mostly sticking to the sides of the bowl and not flowing through the whisks enough. Even after using the device's slider to move the bowl an inch or two, I still had to grab a spatula and periodically scrape the sides back toward the center to mix a bit. But the device is very small and there is not much (really) headroom for it. It was a real pain and a wooden spoon would have been quicker and just as effective. I've made a dough that starts by beating a stick and a half of cold, diced butter into a mound of flour. I tried this with dough hooks and they were 100% useless. I switched to racquets and they were only marginally better. Again, the ingredients stuck to the bowl, not the whisks, and there was no room to scratch the walls. And once again, three minutes was not enough for this process. Almost not. In this case I think maybe a food processor or just some old elbow grease with a paring knife might still help. - I made cookies (recipe for a paid house). Same problems as with the cake mix, only the mix was more sticky so the problems were even worse. In the end I think any standard (cheap) hand mixer would do a better job as it has the same power as this one and is infinitely more maneuverable, works with any bowl and takes up less space. I wrapped it up and sent it back disappointed.
