Although 1997 Blazer ball joints have survived 150,000 miles with unknown service, these MOOG replacement joints should easily give you 150,000 miles with regular lubrication at every oil change. They are very well made and the included fasteners and grease fittings feel heavy duty. The boots that come with these hinges appear to be thicker and more durable, with "MOOG" written in raised letters. The only difficulty with replacement is pulling out the old hinges. If they are riveted, they must be ground down with an angle grinder. The upper joints come off much easier than the lower ones. After the rivets have been ground, use a long, heavy, flat punch and a heavy hammer to knock the rivets out. These holes line up with the new ball joints and you can screw them in. The large opening in the upper ball joint needs to be enlarged for the oversized MOOG joint design. With a grinder, this only takes a few minutes. Work evenly around the hole, removing just enough material from the control arm to seat the new peg. Don't forget to oil them before you're done!
