This is by no means a quiet fan. When placed on an audio component in a case or similar use, it can be quiet. Our component is only 6 feet from where we were seated, and we can clearly hear the high-pitched fan whine at low speeds, even with movie audio playing. They lie down to redefine their definition of "quiet." I suppose if you compare it to a cheap PC fan you could say it's "quieter" but the 17 decibel rating is definitely far off. I haven't officially measured it, but I'm guessing it's closer to 25-30 decibels when hung and more when sitting on a hard surface. Well done, but the wiring to the fan could be more reliable. I am seriously considering returning them and looking for another solution.
