I purchased this instrument specifically for my hydroponic system to measure the pH and EC of my nutrient system. These testers are a must for any serious hydroponic grower. What drew me to this particular instrument was the ability to calibrate pH and EC since the instruments' ability to measure these numbers will drift over time due to the condition of the sensor. In addition, this instrument also compensates for temperature readings. The automatic temperature compensator is a HUGE advantage over those cheap $15-25 pens. I know because I started with one. I've had one of those cheap pens for a long time. And whenever I make my decision and test EC, it's ALWAYS been low! As with the General Hydroponics Flora system, whenever I made my general dilution (1:1:1) the EC was always low, for example around 600-750 parts per million (TDS). So I always thought that I needed to INCREASE my nutrient levels to reach the recommended EC/TDS levels for the plants I grow. It wasn't until I received the PC60-Z that I realized that GH Fora 1:1:1 actually reads 1000ppm. When I received the PC60-Z, in my first test (see attached photo) I found that my hydroponic system was already running at 2.07ms compared to the 1.542ms the cheap pen gave me. I was so glad I waited for this pen because I would mess up my entire nutrient dosing schedule and burn my plants.
