I borrowed a pop up camper from friends and it had a 7 pin connector. My truck has a 4-pin connector. I bought this adapter hoping that the 4 pin flat adapter would plug into my truck and allow the trailer lights, brakes and turn signals to work. I didn't need any other cables for the trip, I wrapped them in electrical tape and left them unconnected. The adapter worked exactly as expected and the trailer could be towed. If you have a brake kit or need to charge your trailer's battery or if you have another auxiliary circuit that requires power, you will need to connect other wires. But simply converting a 4 pin to a 7 pin trailer only light connector, it couldn't be simpler.
