Photos show addition to my Honda Element. I connected it to the same circuit as the front 12 volt outlet. The all metal construction feels very solid and I hope it will last as long as the Element. Do you need a voltmeter? Probably not, but it's a useful measurement if you want to know what your system's voltage is. When the ignition is on, this USB socket works in OFF mode. You have to press the power button to turn it on. Given the choice, I would turn it on automatically (with ignition) with the option to turn it off with a button. Overall it's about the same size as the Honda's hazard button, so it looks pretty much the same as OE as it's symmetrically mounted on the shift knob pad.
