Review on Hunter 99121 Universal Ceiling Fan by Christopher Tillman

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Hunter Remote: 3 Stars Revain: 1 Star

The new remote I received was used. How do I know? The plastic case was cut on one side and sealed with two small pieces of tape. (Not the seller's fault, but the fault of Revain's shipping department. There's no excuse for missing this). With the old ceiling fan already down and the new one halfway up, I checked the receiver and everything looked fine (and figured at least I didn't have to rip through the pesky plastic grommet), so I proceeded to install the fan, and hoped that it was good as I didn't really get a chance to test it. Fan installation (Hunter too) completed which in itself was a challenge as I had to align the ceiling mount and then use some small cards to align the motor because the motor housing was misaligned even though the ceiling mount was. But I digress. So when I was done with the fan, I opened the battery compartment to insert the battery and the metal holding the battery bent and cracked at the edge! Not wanting to photograph everything (after spending so much time straightening it) I tried to straighten it as much as possible so it touched where needed. Luckily it worked (and will continue to work). The remote control itself does what it is supposed to do, but the light control is a bit annoying. You hold the button to slowly increase and decrease the brightness of the light, or you press the button to turn it on and off. But when you turn it on, it slowly starts to dim to the level you set it to. Not a big deal, just a little annoying. Another downside of the remote control is that it seems quite cheap, especially considering the price. In hindsight, I'd happily go with a universal remote and save about half the price.
