Hunter 99121 Universal Ceiling Fan Review

What is the current passion for designing products with controls that are almost invisible. Numbers for fan on/off and fan speed selection are unreadable in low light conditions. So I have to remember which button is on/off, which button is slow etc. Color the numbers in a contrasting color or use LEDs to indicate settings. Aggravating.

We have these remotes with 3 of the 5 Hunter fans we have installed. They are indispensable in most situations. They work perfectly, the battery in the hand controller has a long service life. It controls all fan functions EXCEPT for changing the direction of rotation. This is done via a switch on the fan (in different locations on different models). If you're installing a new fan, it's time to switch to a manual remote control.

I gave it 2 stars because it works about 40% of the time. You get it working again, and it will work fine for an hour to a couple of days, and then you decide not to work anymore. It's a pain in the butt to get it working again. Heaven help you if you accidentally pull on one of the chains. After that it's no longer possible. You have to start over to try to program it and it won't reprogram for the first few tries. I take out my phone and get back to tightening my chains. Much less effort.

An incredibly important feature was left out in both the Hunter Remote Fan Manual and Hunter FAQ. If you want your ceiling fan's light to dim (assuming it has dimmable bulbs), hold "0" and press the light button twice (while holding "0"). Once you've done that (to enable dimming), you can hold down the backlight up and down buttons to adjust the brightness of the dimming. Remote controls are pretty good. They work as expected. We have multiple remote controls to support multiple ceiling fans. We only have Hunter ceiling fans in our house and also Hunter remotes. We were concerned that the remote controls would leak air to other ceiling fans, but to our surprise, this was not the case. The new remote I received was used. How do I know? The plastic case was cut on one side and sealed with two small pieces of tape.
