I have used many Seachem products and they have all proved extremely effective. Renew is no exception. This filter material is an excellent alternative to activated carbon. The only major benefit is how this medium handles phosphate and pH in a plant or discus tank. Traditional activated carbon eventually releases excess phosphate back into the water column, disrupting nutrient balance and potentially causing algal blooms or other problems. Carbon can also increase pH, which can affect both plants and pH-sensitive discus. Like activated charcoal, Renew wears out after a few weeks of use. If the medium is used up, it brings no benefit, but in the case of Renew, it doesn't cause any problems. Overall I highly recommend this product. This will help keep your nitrate levels low and your water crystal clear.
