Both the website description and the clock packaging state that the backup battery will keep the clock and alarms going in the event of a power outage holds. This clock is dark and silent during the scheduled alarm time. I'm using an old clock radio with a 9V battery backup that's been running for over 20 years and you know what? The clock goes off but the alarm still runs on battery power when the utility is in trouble. What good is a battery backup if you don't get up for work on time. I don't understand why having a backup battery to keep your alarm clock doing what it's supposed to be doing is such a big deal these days. I will be returning another model claiming the same failed.
