Review on Schwinn Bike Mirror: Handlebar Mount Accessory for Enhanced Visibility by Troy Robinson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Fairly inexpensive and surprisingly useful mirror

Okay, I know the Schwinn name doesn't mean the same thing it used to (like Bell bike accessories did). However, this mirror is not bad. I use it at the end of a mountain bike handlebar. The end hole in this mirror is a bit small for my mountain bike handlebars, but it works, largely thanks to the velcro that allows me to dexterously position the mirror. So far the mirror has stayed on the bike, no crashes but I've only ridden paved trails and roads. The bracket is placed on the end of the handlebar and held securely with a Velcro fastener. If your bike's handlebars are fairly large or have large eyelets protruding along the handlebars, the mount may not fit. because the mirror head does not rotate as much. The product works best on handlebars that have straight ends or almost sideways. I'm not sure if this mirror head can be pointed directly at a cruiser bike with the handlebars bent backwards. The mirror itself is big enough to be useful. Vibration wasn't a big issue for me; I can still see if a car is approaching from behind. Other people seem to have issues with vibrations. I think this mirror is best when riding on smooth surfaces and used with smoother cruising or beach bikes. I have not determined whether the mirror is made of glass or plastic. For security reasons, I'm thinking of plastic. Speaking of security, that could be the reason for the plastic construction and fairly loose mount, which worries some users. Imagine a mirror and bracket made of STEEL firmly attached to the end of a handlebar. Now imagine you hit something and the steering wheel hits your body - HARD. got picture? The specs in Revain don't say (or am I just missing it?) whether the mirror is glass or plastic, which was pretty bad I had to guess. Too bad manufacturers don't care enough about their products to engage in proper descriptive detail. Luckily, we're here to do the trader's job for them. If only we got paid.
