Review on πŸ”‹ Progressive Dynamics PD9260CV Inteli-Power 9200 Series Converter/Charger: 60 Amp with Charge Wizard by Scott Reid

The master is extremely unreliable or maybe I got a bad unit but it was a 20 day nightmare

I used it on a 20 day trip from Georgia to California. The charger twice failed to recognize that the batteries were low and wouldn't turn on until I realized they were almost dead. There are no errors in my wiring, no bad connection because it worked 90%, I had a solar controller connected to the bus with it, but as it was cloudy most of the time I had to stay at the camper park and connect to the coastal nets. Woke up in the middle of the night and checked my Victron app, the battery has dropped below 60% and there is no input current to the battery (obviously no DC output current, checked with a meter), my freezer is drawing about 55 watts (doesn't run on propane ), so I couldn't let it fail. Pulled out my flashlight and checked the whole circuit and connections over and over again with a meter and everything was fine with the wiring, no shorts, no loose contacts, but no DC output from the charger. I unplugged and replugged the positive cable from the charger, the charger worked and recognized the batteries that needed charging. Now this has happened twice in 20 days of use and each time had to be reset by disconnecting one of the two wires. Everything was fine for the remaining 18 days, two Battle Born 100A lithium batteries were charged. I must have received a defective device or there is a bug in the wizard firmware that may not detect a low battery. I am very disappointed as it has cost me nights of nervous breakdowns worrying about dead batteries. Luckily I had the Victron app to check often and 100A Jackery as a backup. I'm the only unlucky guy because I don't think anyone has the same problem as me. I go back and try the 80A charger.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Definitely a bad product
