E60 - 2008 528i - Perfect fit, no more leaking/smoking from engine bay

Previously I had oil leaks from the valve cover to the engine outlet. The engine compartment smoked heavily for a few minutes after takeoff. The previous owner replaced the valve cover gasket without realizing that the cause of the leak was a faulty PCV valve (built into the valve cover). The new seal worked for about 3-5 months and then exploded because the cause was not fixed. Instead of paying $500 for a BMW brand valve cover, I bought this valve cover because of 1) the reviews and 2) the price. I did the job myself, it took about 8 hours because I broke the crankcase exhaust hose (the hose that attaches to the back of the valve cover and costs about $40 from O'Reillys) and because I didn't have a 10 - mm good. remove bases. When you get the job done, here are some tips. Where the hoses with the ignition coils connect to the car's computer (passenger firewall) is a piece of plastic that holds the computer wires in place. It has 3 screws. take it away This will give you better access to the rear left bolt on the valve cover and the necessary clearance to remove the cover. You will also need to unscrew the 2 screws that hold the coolant reservoir in place. The coolant hoses will prevent you from removing the valve cover. I also zipped up the two hoses that go through the motor to the passenger wiper so they don't get in the way. I'm an amateur mechanic and know quite a bit, but this was my first time replacing a valve cover. This is definitely a project that can be done in a garage at home. I would suggest making sure you have the following: a torque wrench, a couple of sockets, deep sockets, a full set of regular sockets, any sockets/bits that will fit, wrenches, hex and hex keys, screwdrivers, tool extractors (at least eighteen). ") and a magnetic tool puller. I would also replace the crankcase outlet hose because if it's an original part it will likely snap trying to remove it. You'll need to get the air filter and MAF sensor out of the remove elbow to be able to remove the elbow and access the hose connection points which are under the elbow It could be another 25 minutes of work but replacing the 10+ year old plastic hose is a good idea When installing I did added some ultra gray silicone to the underside gaskets to ensure it doesn't move. When it arrived the part was in perfect condition, the gasket fitted well and this part was a snug fit on the N52 engine. 5 EDIT: ONE YEAR AFTER THE INSTALLATION - still works perfectly. No smoking. Doesn't leak oil. Fantastic product, definitely worth buying at $100 than the $500 BMW brand.
