I have this small RAID card in my Dell PowerEdge T20 server which only has 4 SATA ports on the motherboard. I needed connectors for additional drives, so I connected them to a PCIe x16 slot and connected the two drives to the internal SATA connectors. The card worked perfectly and without any problems. I haven't noticed any difference in speed on any of the hard drives I've used compared to the SATA connectors on the motherboard. This was immediately recognized by the BIOS and my two hard drives showed up without installing drivers or anything like that. I haven't had to use the RAID function or the eSATA ports yet, so I can't comment on that. I'm glad it supports them because in the future I might get an external eSATA enclosure for additional drives (unfortunately the T20 enclosure is a little tight on space). Please note that you cannot use all 4 SATA ports and both eSATA ports. simultaneously. You can use 2 SATA and 2 eSATA or all 4 SATA etc. but not all ports at the same time. However, the description clearly says "4 ports", so this wasn't news to me. This is quite common with similar RAID controller cards. Overall I am very happy with this card. It's been working for me for a month now with no problems.
