Firstly, this lens is completely manual. The aperture control for this lens is on the lens and not available on the camera. There is no metal ring on the camera to control the aperture of this lens. I knew that before I bought this lens, so I was fine with that. If you have a camera that doesn't meter through the lens, you don't have a meter (like D5300 frame sensors, etc.). If you decrease the aperture with the lens aperture ring, the image through the camera will darken. So at this point you need to take a few shots to make sure you're using the correct measurement. Nothing against a digital camera. The lens is large and rather square. I have a D600 and I can reach everything on the lens, although it's a bit tight. You can do a lot of cool things with this lens. Just search for tilt-shift examples on YouTube. Compared to the $2,000 price tag for a Nikon pan-tilt-slide camera, this is a very good option. If you have the money this is a good lens to buy. The only problem is the lens cap. It always seems to come off when I open the bag. The springs are not as tight compared to Nikon caps. Nikon 82mm caps are $25, so plan for that.
