I'm good with electrics but when I wanted to install this unit with idat-alca alca I found very conflicting instructions. Going online with compustar proved useless because if you are not a registered installer you will not receive detailed installation instructions. To top it off when I set up idatalink alca via their website to flash the device I was never able to complete the process due to the computer requirements to communicate with them. You must have a PC, a Mac will not work. Internet Explorer must be used. Your computer must then be configured for a specific DirectX and a different driver in order to communicate with the data connection. I've never managed to do that. I ended up using an extra key in the steering column next to the ignition to bypass the immobilizer.
