I bought these shorts, got a size XXL based on waist and prayed they would fit. I have about a 38-40" waist and my hips are about 24" in circumference and they were a bit big. Especially with the compression short layer there was more freedom than should be in the legs, I decided based on the size of the waist. For someone my size, that's reassuring! I will also say that the phone case was smaller than I expected compared to the picture, it still fits my OnePlus 6 well (6.15" x 3" thin body).
