The sponge material is durable and cleans very well. I only use it for baby bottles so I can't say if it's suitable for food plates. It's better than cheap sponge brushes because they don't last long and are harder to keep clean due to the small cells in the sponge, and those with nylon bristles, like a toilet brush, splash water everywhere, which isn't the case at all. Don't expect a metal pin to rust forever because for the price it's probably not a high-quality alloy, but if you just hang it out to dry it should last a while and you can always sand the rust down and then spray it with rustoleum .
