2006 Subaru Forester 2.5X Automatic

2006 Subaru Forester 2.5X Automatic - 9 hour exchange - all parts fit well - good kit. I had many reservations about this kit after reading many online reports from Subaru owners about Gates kits degrading due to Japanese OEM components being replaced with Chinese made equipment. This kit has been clearly marked with the possible country of origin of each included component. Clear instructions for removal, parts preparation and installation were included, including bleeding the tensioner. Original parts in my kit: Belts - Gates - USA; All Pulleys - Japan (Koyo, NSK); Tensioner - unknown casting, but pulley was NTN, tension rod was NOK Water pump - unknown. For me, the $168 price tag was well worth the parts, seals, and belt I used. I ordered a $113 SUBARU OEM water pump from the dealer instead of installing a Gates pump as the pump failure rate was high in reviews - not worth it after a 9 hour swap! Be very knowledgeable of the parts required for this job including a breaker, 22mm socket and any special tool or tool to reinstall the crankshaft pulley. It also requires ATF for the fluid you lose after disconnecting the lines, as well as coolant and air conditioning. There are great videos on youtube how to do it yourself - just know that most of them are for manual gearbox - it's an automatic gearbox and it has 2 transmission lines connected to the radiator.

Pros
  • Fits me perfectly
Cons
  • No instructions
