Latches are NOT welded to themselves.
I looked at various advertisements for this type of latch and settled on this one because of the added weight and the picture showing the hook welded to itself. I received two packs of 6 each. and none of them are welded. They'll probably work fine for what I need to do, but keep that in mind when it counts.
