Review on Z Wave Me RaZberry2 Plug Raspberry Frequency by Tonya Jones

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great product and the only ZWave controller that works with HomeKit

Was up and running in just an hour. I recommend using the Razberry OS image from z-wave.me instead of the generic NOOBS or Raspbian OS from the official Raspberry Pi website. The Razberry OS is slimmed down and small making it easy to install and comes with a Z-Way server pre-installed. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because I had trouble getting a couple of my devices to turn on. I ended up activating them all but it took a while while on my other ZWave controller they were immediately excluded and/or activated. The best reason to use this solution is that you can get it to work with HomeKit via the Homebridge software. Note that a lot of people on the internet don't seem to understand what HomeKit really is. HomeKit is NOT an iOS app and does not even support the iOS apps that this product offers by default. HomeKit is Apple's platform for integrating multiple home automation products from different vendors into a single interface that can be used via Siri. This is the only ZWave controller on the market today that you can use with HomeKit, giving you the ability to run Homebridge on a Raspberry Pi. Line tools and HomeKit (like Siri) are optional for you, then something like the Samsung Smartthings Hub is probably your best bet. After all, it's a bit cheaper and works out of the box with Zwave as well as other distance technologies (Hue, Zigbee, etc.). But it doesn't work with HomeKit and Siri.

Pros
  • Hands-free
Cons
  • Very expensive
