I've been using this product in my Biocube 14 for a little over a year and it's working great for me. I put it in the second compartment of my Biocube 14 filter, I don't have a media basket or anything like that. I use these together with live rock, purigen and filter thread in the second compartment of my Biocube. I change every 5 months. I have to say that I'm not 100% sure if this is the reason for my little Biocube's success, but I have to admit that my aquarium stays very clean. I haven't had too many algae outbreaks. This product contains activated charcoal and GFO. Activated charcoal helps remove toxins from the aquarium, while GFO helps remove phosphates that can promote algae growth. One of the main issues I have with this product is that it takes time to flush and clean the charcoal first. Rinsing with tap water will never completely wash it out. I usually wash it with a minuette or two and then put it in the aquarium. However, putting it in a tank doesn't leach any carbon or anything else that I can see. All in all a great product. Advantages: - small size, ideal for a nano aquarium - low cost. Cons: - takes time to wash off.
