Review on ๐Ÿ“ท Canon RF 50mm F1.8 STM Lens for Full Frame Mirrorless RF Mount Cameras [EOS R, EOS RP, EOS R5, EOS R6] (4515C002) by Shimamoto Tatsuki แ Œ

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good quality product, I rate this purchase excellent.

I have been waiting for this lens since the official announcement on November 5th. I have a Canon RF 50mm f/1.2, but it weighs 700g and is very long, which is very annoying when traveling. The new fifty dollars is what I needed! Now I will have a Canon EOS RP + RF 35mm / 1.8 + RF 50mm / 1.8 in my backpack when traveling and this will cover 90% of my interests, the remaining 10% will be covered by the new light and compact Canon RF 70-200mm f / 4, I am waiting for the announcement of the official price for it :)

Pros
  • - Very compact and lightweight - Steel bayonet - Fits perfectly on the Canon EOS RP - the most compact FF travel option - Minimal vignetting, in general, the sharpness and colors of the photograph are at a very good level, when comparing two shots taken at 50 / 1.8 and 50 / 1.2 at aperture 1.8 blindly, it is impossible to distinguish.
Cons
  • - Made in Malaysia, the plastic is tactilely different from the RF 35mm / 1.8, the seams of the plastic soldering on the body are visible (it is not clear why it was impossible to cast in a single piece, there is no such thing on the RF 35mm) - The control ring was combined with focus control, or the selected setting, because of which steps were sacrificed when scrolling the ring, which is inconvenient when choosing ISO or aperture - I want fixed steps like on other RF lenses. - There is no AF / MF switch, which means that in order to switch to manual mode, you need to climb into the camera menu and turn it on there.
