Let me tell you the most important fact why I had to replace 2 of our existing DVRs and why I chose this Coxpal model. That way you are informed and don't make the same mistake. I bought and installed Aukey DVRs in our family cars for $90 two years ago. It was a well-known brand at the time and a decent model (so I thought). Last month I accidentally checked my device's microSD card (it's mounted behind the rearview mirror so I can't see the screen while driving). I found out that the dashcam stopped recording 9 months ago! It still made the same ringing noises when I turned the car on (so I figured it was fine). But nothing was recorded! (when you thought you were safe with a dash cam). Why? Because then something must have happened and he lost (reset) his settings. Every time it was powered on, it went to the initial setup page (unbeknownst to me) and just waited there for input - not capturing a video before you passed that initial setup. This is the most ridiculous design and I'm sure most DVRs available have the same design flaw. The DVR is a critical device. It should start recording as soon as it is powered on (or restarted) without worrying about other settings. Would you rather have video of a critical crash (whether with an incorrect time/date stamp) or would you like the recording to stop and you wait to enter the correct date/time first? The answer is obvious, isn't it? Apparently most of these "designers" don't understand this logic. Another important information when choosing a DVR; There are models with a built-in rechargeable battery (you will never choose them) and there are models with a built-in capacitor (instead of a battery). Built-in batteries will die over time (especially when exposed to extreme windshield temperatures). Capacitors don't have this chemical problem. A capacitor cannot provide backup power for so long compared to a battery. But it doesn't matter much and can be solved by hard wiring if necessary. But also with the cap design; Your DVR may restart at an unpredictable time. when will it happen; You better have a properly designed device that keeps recording (rather than sitting at the setup screen while driving in the dark). Sign in to Coxpal. Specs looked good on Revain. Fresh out of the box, the very first test I wanted to do was (as explained above); What will it do when it's on? And so; He immediately started recording without stopping anything (otherwise I would return it immediately). And guess what; (because it has a built-in GPS module) it even automatically extracts the correct date/time from the GPS signal without you having to type anything. The physical build quality is excellent, as is the overall functionality, customization options, ease of use and quality of the cameras. All the nice packaging details including a fully detailed booklet with an instruction manual in perfect English. The quality is absolutely comparable to what you would get if you bought an Apple product. If you search, you will find that the DVRs are just a product of Coxpal (a company based in Shenzhen, China). They have a top notch website with full contact information (including the CEO!). All of these details contrast (in a good way) with the stigma attached to the average Chinese product. Coxpal is very committed to becoming a global player in the DVR market with a very high quality and specific focus. A few words about the DVR market: as you know, most of the high-end cars already have a camera on the windshield (for high security). functions such as lane departure warning, cruise control, etc.). So if car companies want; You can implement an embedded dashcam solution very easily. But they don't go there. Why? Liability... They don't want lawyers to sue them for oblivion if something goes wrong with the recording etc. So a dash cam is an absolute legal requirement for a driver these days; Automakers won't worry about that. Because of this, there are hundreds of one-day DVRs on the market (mostly junk). Much to my surprise (and disappointment) even very big names (like Garmin - with top-of-the-line GPS products and Philips - the electronics giant) have offered absolute feature/quality DVR trials (just look for their user reviews). What is written above the background I am very happy to find this Coxpal product. A premier Chinese company that prides itself on teaching the electronics world how to present a quality product. I'll let you know later if I have any issues with the product.
