TLDR; it is water resistant and prevents leaks from getting to our couch.I bought this cover because our female dog has spay incontinence - which causes her to sometimes "leak" onto our couch. She doesn't mean to do it, it just happens when she is very relaxed. *It is NOT a lot of liquid - so don't expect this to prevent your kid from getting juice on your couch underneath the cover*. I bought this cover hoping it could help with protecting our couch, and its done a great job so far. My only complaint is that I have to fix it daily and make it straight again - tucking it in, pulling the backing up, etc. However, its done what it needed to do: which was prevent any liquid into getting on our couch. So for that, I am happy. We have a suede couch so not sure if that contributes to the need to daily straighten the cover. But I'll take a quick, 30 second adjustment over a spotty couch.
