Review on Dycem 50 1550W Non Slip Netting White by Rob Madden

What a disappointment!

I love the many uses for Dycem sheets and rolls, I ordered them here and couldn't live without them. But this Dycem "lattice" is a different story. It doesn't look like the photo: airy, clean. And it's not your usual smooth, sticky, water-resistant Dycem texture. Instead, this product is a dense, spongy material that absorbs water and liquids easily and takes quite a long time to dry. How it looks, how it feels, how it feels - and what I believed when I unpacked it - it's exactly the same as the sponge shelf cloths sold in rolls at most home improvement and hardware stores. . . for a fraction of the cost of it. It is far better to walk this path and forget it. I have successfully used large slabs of plain Dycem cut from rolls to prevent a chronically ill relative lying in a hospital bed from slipping when the head of the bed is raised. Dycem sheets successfully prevented her incontinence sheets and pads from shifting, but I thought this "net" would be an improvement as it allows air to circulate underneath the patient. However, this "mesh" easily absorbed urine and other liquids, unlike regular Dycem, and, unlike Dycem, did not yield to rubbing. Instead, it had to be thrown in the washing machine and dried—a tedious job with an outdoor rope or (as I ended up doing) a clothes dryer. I happened to have a roll of this open woven sponge shelf liner (Contact is a brand) and it looks, feels and works exactly the same. Stick with this much more economical stuff to keep items from shifting if you'd rather not use (and waste) solid Dycem sheets or rolls.

Pros
  • Confident
Cons
  • Out of fashion
