The construction feels solid and should last a lifetime (I hope!). The nylon has some strong grooves. I'm not sure if that helps, but I haven't noticed any ill effects from it. Barry King has grooves too, but not as deep. Other fine leather craftsmen in my office have also bought them and they are all happy.
