This fan has been a lifesaver for my fish. I have a 13.5 gallon Fluval Evo saltwater tank and live in Southern California. I got this last month while setting up my new aquarium and couldn't control the safe temperature. I've been driving 12 hours a day and refuse to turn the AC low enough to keep the tank cool while I'm at work all day. I've seen others put their fan over the edge and I need to do the same with mine. With the settings I have in my aquarium I can place it over the filter zone. I set the heater to a temperature I don't want to go below and the heater turns on and both the fan and heater keep the temperature where I want it to be. The fan cools the water through evaporation. So if you have a saltwater aquarium, make sure you have good quality freshwater on hand or readily available. Not having a reverse osmosis system, I drank an entire 5 gallon pitcher of fresh water in 2 weeks during the hottest time of September. That was a lot since I only have 10 gallons of salt water in my aquarium. The fan is not too loud.
