The description states: Calibrated vernier caliper with 0 to 6 inch (0 to 150 mm) measuring range, 0.0005 inch (0.01 mm) resolution and +/- 0.001 inch accuracy for measuring inside/outside diameter, depth and Step products in the harsh environment of the workshop. The first order came in and was rejected by 0.005 inches. To check the caliper, I used a piece of metal with known dimensions (interestingly, the NIST documentation came separately). In any case, the supplier quickly replaced it in their favor. The new one was still off when I measured from the tips of the micrometer jaws, but was small to within 0.001 when measured near the back of the jaw. Therefore, I assume that the device is extremely sensitive and that no pressure should be exerted on the slider after contact with the measurement object. In this case the problem could be how I was working with the tool as 0.001 is a very small amount. So if you use my review please keep in mind that I am not a professional with extensive knowledge of the different brands of micrometers or experience of using them professionally. My non-professional opinion: I think there should be at least two ways. Size confirmation/check before ordering materials based on the measurements of this machine.
