I don't know how but these are very powerful speakers for their size. At maximum volume, we had to yell pretty loudly to have a conversation in the same room. And the base is well balanced. That's what I would expect from a guitar amp, but not from this tiny USB powered speaker. Speaking of USB powered, that's one of the best things about it. There are no outlets. They are powered by a USB port, port hub or even a computer battery pack. Because USB is not for audio, only for power. For audio, you have a standard 3.5mm jack that plugs into almost anything. Even your phone. If your phone no longer has an audio jack. But that's the problem with phones.
