These are not sound cancelling. Sound isolating at best. They only block about 20 or so decibels. However, they're comfy and my 3 year-old with ASD depends on them. Whenever she's overstimulated or the world is "TOO LOUD!" she pops these on and within seconds she's a sweet little girl again. I think the comfort/pressure of the headphones, the bright color, and the slight sound dampening are just enough for what she needs. I'll try her in the future with active noise cancelling in different kinds of headphones, but for now this is perfect.
