I bought it when buying a new laptop and it was necessary to transfer information to it from the old one. A CD with a program for the transmission was enclosed. If I ever feel like I need clarification I won't hesitate to read the instructions but it seemed pretty self explanatory to me. Plugged it in, booted up a CD on my old laptop, hit the button to start the transfer, then sat back and let it do its thing. So it was pretty easy to use, but I still deducted two stars for the following reasons: It took FOREVER to translate. Realistically it was more like a few hours (3-4) but I transferred maybe 400GB. I didn't think it would take that long, but I'm not sure if this is normal. He didn't endure everything. The last time I did a laptop note transfer (using a different cable and program), everything transferred. It was like my old laptop in my new one. It didn't happen this time, but I'm not sure if it was because of this product or maybe Windows 7. He gave me a list of things that didn't migrate and I was told to just reload them. For the most part, that wasn't a problem, but there were a few programs I couldn't do it with without buying them again, and I didn't want to. as I imagined. I figured whatever was in my old program files would just be moved to the same directory on my new laptop. That didn't happen. Instead, a new directory (Program Filesx86) was created. I'm not sure why it did that, but now when I upload something it defaults to this one and I have to keep redirecting it. I just wanted one folder named Program Files, not two. I don't know how to fix it as I can't delete the newly created one. be right on your trail. However, be aware that the transfer will likely take a while, may not transfer all of your files as advertised, and may create a new directory instead of transferring to the desired location.
