I'm glad it's finally available at the suggested retail price. I got the 3700x to replace a broken 6700k system. The ASUS GENE VIII motherboard is out of service. So it's time for an upgrade and back to AMD. The last AMD part I had was an AMD FX-8350 in 2012. 3700x seems to work fine, Cinebench scores 15 when 850 to 2145, so that's the thing. The chip is great and all, but it gets too hot when idling, 40+ C on AIO, 24 C at ambient. I find it handy when my computer gets warm while gaming etc but not when idle. goes to 4.2+ GHz all the time. It's like it doesn't know how to lower the frequency (even on a balanced AMD profile, latest Win 10 1903). Disabling altitude solves a temporary issue, but it's not an option. probably an early user tax and I hope they fix this in the bios. It could also be an ASUS board that is too aggressive with voltages. Edit: July 31, 2019 +1 star, Windows Power Saver meal plan is what I wanted. At idle at 32°C and an ambient temperature of 25°C, a core voltage of 0.944V instead of a crazy 1.45+ VI sacrifices some idle power, but that's okay. Problem. Just needs a little fine tuning.
