The microphone at least somehow starts to work only with the "Recording volume" and "Microphone gain" settings turned to the maximum. In this case, the sound quality suffers noticeably. Interestingly. The microphone arm is too short. So in the working position, the microphone is away from where it should be. If you "sacrifice" one ear and position the headphones so that the microphone is opposite your mouth (and hold them so that they do not fall, not behind the microphone, but behind the second ear), then the sound is recorded much louder. This is despite the fact that the microphone is farther from the mouth. This idea, to shorten the arm of the microphone, seems to have come from the managers, not the engineers. Managers seem to have won.
