Review on πŸ”Œ BTECH Programming Cable - FTDI USB Cable for UV-25X2, UV-25X4, UV-50X2 by Deron Gilliam

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Make sure you order the correct cable for your transceiver.

I now have 2 USB cables for PC04 FTDI programming and that's the only reason I'm giving 4 stars. I can't remember if I bought the first one from Revain or where. He has 5 starts. The website I ordered the cable from pointed me to BTECH as the right programming cable, so I didn't hesitate to order it. When it arrived I connected it to my Linux PC using the recommended CHIRP programming software from chirp.danplanet.com and then to a BF-F8HF programmable transceiver. The device is not recognized. Checked the connection again with the same result. I checked eHam.net to see if anyone else is having this issue. I read about the problem not with the cable but with the order button on the website and was directed to another website by a radio amateur who has specific experience and free information on all Baofeng transceivers. He found evidence that customers were being asked to buy the wrong cable for the BF-F8HF. He contacted the website and the issue was resolved. I ordered a different cable but this time I was extra careful to order a PC03 FTDI USB programming cable. The correct programming cable has arrived and the BF-F8HF is now programmed. Haven't decided yet if I'll keep the PC04 programming cable as a spare. The caveat I give to the prospective buyer is to make sure you order the programming cable for your radio. I have a Baofeng mobile transceiver that requires PC04 and a HT that requires PC03. Now I'm glad both radios are programmed. Difficult to program by hand, so a programming cable for your specific needs like mine is required.
