Review on 🔧 ABN 8in Valve Spring Compressor - Efficient Tool for Small Overhead Engine Repair by Luis Neels

Revainrating 3 out of 5

It takes a drop to overcome obstacles.

To be honest the spring compressor arrived on time and exactly as advertised. I have worked on a Honda Accord and an Acura MDX and have not been able to find a spring compressor that works well. On these Honda vehicles, the valves are pressed into the heads with limited clearance from the wall and spark plug tube. It takes some pressure for the compressor to compress the spring enough to remove and install the retainers. I cut off some EMT leads to hold the spring down and fished out the holders with a magnet. This worked great for valve removal. When I tried resetting the guards, each valve took 30-45 minutes. After the 6th of 24 valves I cut and welded in my own compression head with adequate slope. My invention reduced installation time to 5 minutes per valve. The hour I put into the custom head paid off. This supercharger also lacked a lever with a small knob for compressing the springs. I added a wrench for extra leverage but it was clumsy. A longer handle is required for compression effect. I couldn't find a good solution to this problem. I don't make compression tools, but my photos illustrate a tool that I feel the market needs.

Cons
  • Not as thick as other alternatives
