Review on 📷 ProMediaGear Tomahawk Professional Arca Swiss GT1 by Stacey Vang

The heavy 400mm lens is weightless.

This is the first time I've used a stabilizer with my camera after decades of using traditional tripods. Wow, this got me so addicted. The Canon 5D IV, paired with a 400mm 2.8-litre III with optional 2x teleconverter, was unbearable to handle except for brief periods. Although the tripod held the lens well, it was still heavy and made it difficult to make every adjustment. The GTI ProMediaGear Sidekick eliminates all of that. Check out the sales videos on YouTube, they really help to understand how this stabilizer works compared to others. With my existing good tripod head, I didn't need the rotating head on the base typical of most stabilizers. This stabilizer reduces weight and even works on a monopod without a tripod head. I'm impressed with the dual functionality and simplicity. The tutorial video on YouTube includes this tidbit, after balancing I've used pencil lines for each configuration to serve as a guide for a quicker setup next time. The bearing is so smooth that even the slightest twist is enough and the camera configuration stays in place but is easy to move. A little more twist and it's perfectly secure. I was concerned that this setup would lose the ability to adjust the camera plane below the axis for balance. Using an Arca plate and clamp, I set up my own for testing purposes and found the camera set to be fairly well balanced with no unnecessary detail. I'm thrilled, the quality is excellent.

Pros
  • The lens must be fitted with a compatible Arca-style plate and to mount the lens simply insert into the clip, adjust the balance and secure.
Cons
  • Interchangeable
