They arrived 2 out of 4 already broken. I was able to get a refund for the entire purchase that was reviewed. The two survivors have many, many scrapes and minor dents. I can't remember what kind of wood it is, but it resembles soft poplar wood in appearance and hardness. Despite all the dents, they are smooth on the outside, but need to be lightly sanded on the inside. Pretty rough in places where wearing it can be uncomfortable and you risk getting a chip. Generally I bought them for wood burning and I think after a little sanding with 220 grit sandpaper they will do the job well. Value for money is questionable.
