Review on πŸ”‹ NOCO HM082BKS Group U1 Snap Top Battery Box for Mobility & Lawn/Garden Batteries - Black by Joe Gosa

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works great as a battery box but limited space for a camping/project box

Part of me wanted to dock the start, because it didn't meet "my" specific needs, but overall it's a pretty good product. NOCO makes some pretty good stuff and I got my hands on this and a Gruppe 24 box for my project and the quality seemed better than the other options. U1 batteries fit snugly in this box, with little room to maneuver inside. I use a 35Ah U1 battery from Harbor Freight. I bought the box for a 12v car fridge project where I don't have outlets that are always on for it to work. I was hoping to turn the box into a camping/project box where I could mount a solar charge controller (to regulate battery charging from a car outlet) and fit some USB plugs and sockets into the lid for my immediate project needs Well meet extra power needs for camping/tent. Unfortunately, the dimensions of the cover make it impractical to fit more than one switch and voltmeter due to angles and the like. I resorted to some simple connections straight off the battery that still took up some space under the cover. Overall, I chose this box because of the reasonable price and the snap-on lid. It will not be used in rainy/humid conditions, so vents (including snap covers) are not an issue. The included strap is a little misleading as it has a connecting function which I initially thought was a fancy improvement over traditional straps. Eventually I realized that this "feature" had no function other than maybe packaging (it was bundled together, so I figured it was supposed to work that way). When used as a traditional strap, it holds up great.

Pros
  • Built for harsh environments with impact resistance down to minus 20 degrees Fahrenheit and impervious to acid, gas, oil and UV radiation
Cons
  • Expensive
