
I have been making cold coffee for over a year now and have been experimenting with different methods of separating coffee from ground coffee. I opted for a two-step process. Pour it through a standard kitchen strainer to collect most of the soil, then strain it through a "coffee sock". It was messy and time consuming. I knew there had to be a better way. and eat! This filter fits in a standard WIDE MOUTH MASON JAR and allows me to brew coffee with coffee grounds in this filter or use the filter to separate the coffee from the coffee grounds for 24 hours after brewing. I personally like to brew first and then filter the finished product. only because I brew half a gallon at a time and prefer to use 2 cups of coffee grounds and 6 cups of filtered water. It makes very strong coffee. I add some Italian sweet cream and a dash of milk. Perfection. This filter catches even the smallest particles. MUCH better than other screens I've tried. It also allows for a richer flavor than I got by straining the coffee through a cloth (flannel?) "coffee sock". love this shop. My wife didn't drink my cold drink because it was too gritty when using other strainers and "flavorless" when using a coffee sock. but after i started using this filter it changed. Now I need to order one more of these filters so I can brew beer in bulk. The screen used in this filter is perfect! You'll still find some sediment after the coffee has sat for a while, but MUCH less than other filters. *** TO UPDATE. Did I say I LOVE this filter? We bought 3 of these filters and I brew a half gallon every 3 days. I think I've turned the recipe into art now. Fill the coffee filter. Grind the beans to a "semi-coarse" grind. Fill a half gallon glass 3/4 full with room temperature filtered water. Insert a Simple Life Cycle Mason Jar filter pre-filled with coffee. Pour water onto the bottom until the water is about 1/2 inch from the edge of the can. Close the lid and let it steep for 24 to 36 hours. The end result will be STRONG and DELICIOUS without the need for straining or filtering before drinking. I will never drink "hot" coffee again.
