I bought these for a project so I am not using them for their intended purpose. I fish a lot at night. One half is attached to the bottom of the pole. The other is attached to a long cord and the other end is attached to a landscape spike. I snap them together to keep the rod from falling into the river lake, but when I grab the rod I can quickly release it. So far it has saved my rod once. Since I buy good gear (around 200.00 or more for a good rod/reel combo) I can say that it has paid off.
