Review on ๐Ÿ”ฅ Enhance Flavors with the Breville BSM600SIL Smoking Gun Food Smoker, Silver by Michelle Cooper

Revainrating 5 out of 5

High quality and great work

With dozens of similar items on Revain ranging from $19.95 to $300, I settled on the budget brand Breville ($69 at the time of purchase ). I didn't want a cheap, fragile item at a lower price point, especially since the item was being used (for me) for entertainment and in front of guests. I have other Breville products and am very satisfied with them and their customer service. Made in America and when I called to request a little stop for one of their products the phone rang twice and one person answered the call which I could understand and she helped without a single handover to another person. It's amazing these days. As for the smoker himself: it works very well. I was a little surprised that the smokehouse doesn't have a heating element, so you light the chips with a lighter or a match, but it turned out to be extremely easy. It's like lighting a pipe (if you're familiar with that): chips are in a bowl, flip the switch to start the blower, hold a match to the bowl and the chips will instantly catch fire. After some thought, I decided that I prefer this method (to my wrong assumption) because it follows the KISS principle and works very well. I'll probably buy a cheap lighter and just keep it in my smoker's case. About smoking with it: I've used it to make smoked cocktails. I imagined sticking a pipe in a cocktail and blowing smoke through it, another wrong assumption. The manual specifically says not to do this. I followed the guide's advice and poured all the ingredients for the cocktail into a shaker, added smoke and shook the cocktail. I shook it a little longer than usual to pick up more smoke. I used a glass shaker which made a great presentation. Through experimentation (oh the sacrifices we make) I was able to accurately recreate a smoked cocktail from a local restaurant. The smoke is very noticeable in the drink, both in taste and aroma, and it really changes the experience. As for the quality of the smoke, I don't know what I was expecting, but the smoke was very "clean" - white and free of particles. Surprisingly, he held out for a long time. After 15 minutes there is still smoke in the shaker. I expected that either the smoke would be absorbed by the shaking, or it would cool and settle in a relatively short amount of time. Neither happened. As for the amount of smoke, that was the biggest surprise. Like the previous reviewer, I bought extra wood shavings, but after making 6-8 cocktails, I barely made a dent in the wood shaving sample that was provided. It also goes out quickly. I was expecting it to grow as the wood burns and it takes quite a while for some smoke to emerge (obviously I had no idea what to expect) but it starts pouring straight away. So you have to be ready. I was surprised by the first one and had to quickly put it in a shaker. For the following drinks I have moved the operation with the exhaust fan already switched on next to the extractor hood. I didn't set off the fire alarm the first time, but I don't like the smoke hanging in the kitchen. The smoke appears to be slightly heavier than air, or at least the buoyancy is neutral. You can tell from the picture the shape of the shaker I used. This was excellent as this particular shaker has a screw top. I chose the method of removing the cap by running the end of the tubing up to the hole and then prying open the seal at the top to allow the air to escape. All the smoke stayed in the shaker and as soon as it started coming out from under the shaker lid I stopped the smoker and closed the lid again. It was the perfect shaker for this app, which I happened to have, so I was lucky. Absolute top marks in all respects. I only used it one evening but for 6-8 shakers (12-16 drinks) and am very satisfied. I bought it for cocktails but will definitely try it in Essen. The smoked cheese looks appealing and I also make ribs which I will try.
