Review on Tripp Lite 4 Port DisplayPort/USB KVM Switch with HDMI/USB Ports, 4K 60 Hz, HDR, HDCP 2.2, IR, USB Sharing, and USB 3.0 Cables - Black (B005-HUA4) by Chris Shields

USB 2.0 keyboard connector only

I bought this Tripp Lite B005-HUA4 to connect two PCs, both AMD Ryzen APUs running Windows 10 Pro, to my HDMI 1080p monitor, main speakers, The keyboard and mouse Logitech. Switching 1080p video works fine with my slightly dated display, as does switching devices connected to its USB 3.0 hub. I couldn't test the sound switching. From my point of view there are two disadvantages. First, the keyboard port is USB 2.0 only, so I can either slow down the built-in Das Keyboard hub and control this KVM switch from the keyboard, or connect the keyboard to one of the USB 3.0 devices. ports on the switch, which loses keyboard control of the hub and plugs the keyboard into the front of the switch (while all other cables run out the back). This is made worse by the fact that there is only one USB 3.0 cable running back to the PC with a keyboard, mouse and two additional device ports, so I feel like Tripp Lite could have just made all ports a USB 3.0 switch . That's what takes a star off my rating. Another flaw that is very easy to fix is the brackets that come with it. They will only sit flush with the switch if they are fitted so that they bottom on the surface that the switch sits on. I have an old desk with one of those old school built in power switchboards with separate switches for different plugs on the back and it would be perfect if I could mount it on the desk under that power supply. Middle of the closet with my towers. I feel like this is a relatively niche app and something I could fix with some very basic metalwork on my part, so I won't blame Tripp Lite for that. Eventually I had to send this back because of the USB connection and I'm still looking for a KVM switch that suits my needs.
