If you are using standard valve covers I would recommend a cork. After reassembling my factory VCs using these rubber pads on three separate pads, I made my decision. I find rubber goes better with aftermarket aluminum caps. I chose an anaerobic sealant for my rig because I hate using silicone, it's difficult to clean and can bring splinters into the crankcase.
